Pro Genetically Modified Foods. Only the pros not the cons Essay
Pro Genetically Modified Foods. Only the pros not the cons - Essay Example These foods benefit farmers as they realize higher yields when they grow them (Carter, Moschini & Sheldon, 2011, p. 33). Therefore, these foods promote the wellbeing of the entire society. Reduced poverty levels, for example, illustrate the importance of genetically modified foods. These foods, also, affect positively on the environment. They safeguard the environment in a number of ways, which makes the earth a better place to live in. consequently, human beings achieve peace of mind as protection of the environment assures them of the protection of future generations. Many governments around the globe advocate for the use of genetically modified foods. The United States, for example, encourages the growth of these foods (Forman, 2010, p. 26). Governments appreciate that the foods alleviate poverty in their respective countries. More to this, they encourage cultivation of these foods due to the economic implications resulting from the foods. The foods, for example, promote economic growth, given the availability of food that can be exported to other countries. The foods also save the various economies amounts that could have been used to import foods. These funds can be channeled to other development projects, thus boosting the standards of living in the nations. Environmental activists also support the use of genetically modified foods. These foods protect their interest of conserving the environment, which makes them support the implementation of these crops in their different regions (Young, 2004, pp. 2-3). Health institutions encourage the use of these foods as well. This follows the health benefits derived from growing the crops. They, for example, utilize minimal application of chemicals on the plants. Consequent to this, farmers and other farm workers experience reduced exposure to harmful chemicals. This reduces the number of health cases related to the use of the chemicals,

School leadership. Is transformational leadership really effective in Essay
School leadership. Is transformational leadership really effective in schools - Essay Example While the former is predominantly an ââ¬Å"instructionalâ⬠style of leadership while a transformational approach tends to be more team based. In applying different models of leaders and various approaches to leadership, there has been a general consensus that school leadership differs from organizational leadership, hence a team based approach may be more suitable. School leadership essentially needs to combine leadership and management capabilities. Everard and Morris(1990) have laid out five stages of management, wherein setting goals, planning and organizing resources for the achievement of goals and implementing control and corrective procedures are important in achieving the desired objectives. In the context of transformational leadership styles, Bolman and Deal (1997) are of the view that ââ¬Å"Poorly managed organizations with strong, charismatic leaders may soar temporarily only to crash shortly thereafter.â⬠(Bolman and Deal,1997: xiii-xiv). In the international context, cultural implications may also need to be taken into consideration in determining what kind of leadership style would be relevant. On the basis of the above, the research question examined in this study is whether a transformational leadership style is really effective in schools?

E-Commerce Merchant Server Software Functionality And High Cost Of Essay
E-Commerce Merchant Server Software Functionality And High Cost Of Websites Maintenance - Essay Example E-commerce packages are intended to provide the functionality of time and money saving. However, the customization of websites cost a high amount. An E-Commerce suit is only reliable and robust in functionalities when it supports the different business models, reporting system and visual management tools. Additionally, the software packages also handle the direct payment transaction from customers or through the payment gateway. Merchantââ¬â¢s server software handles the sensitive information through a server socket secure layer (SSL) or digital certificates (Srikanth and Dhanapal 2012). Merchant Server Software is the essential component of the system that connects the web server for the order fulfilment, inventory and other systems in the offices. Main functions of the merchant server software include the processing of the payment, and exchange very critical information like payment authorization, tax, shipping, invoicing, and payment authorization. Other functionalities of a me rchant server are the database querying, web page composition in a real time, user profiling, and targeting of the contents based on the userââ¬â¢s interest and history. There are many open source software, which provide the functionality as a Merchant Server. Security is the priority-based requirement for every entrepreneur in the market. Buyers require the confidentiality for transactions via the credit cards. Shoppers are worried about fraudulent means of fake entrepreneurs. Security precautions can save the buyers from a big loss of money and preserve the business for the future. By adoption of fraudulent tactics, one can face the mistrust from customers and wrath of the companies issuing the credit cards. A secure shopping cart system provides the essential integration of payment transactions. Both, open source and licensed propriety software are available in the market (Richmond 2012). A shopping cart is embedded with the credit card verification. However, a third party ser vices like eBay or Etsy may be achieved for security of payment processing. PayPal is another third party, which charges a trivial fee and provides the secure in and out transactions for customers (Lagorio 2010). Why is a website so costly to maintain? Building a website also requires its maintenance. Regular updates and maintenance of a website leads to the extra cost. A company may cut the expenses by removing the intermediaries. Maintenance of a website requires the well skilled staff and trained people. A company launches the business via the website but there are no enough people who visit the website and purchase products. Website development and maintenance are the critical factors in order to attract the market shares and create loyal customers. Website maintenance encompasses all those activities, which are necessary for the operational integrity of a website. The cost of keeping the website operational and current depends on the complexity and size of the website. A well d esigned requires a high cost of maintenance because it requires effective updates (Avila-Weil and Regan 2007). Another factor that determines the maintenance cost of a website includes that how many times features require to be updated. A business owner estimates the length of the time required for updating the features. A static website needs to be updated weekly or monthly that requires less cost than maintenance of the interactive product catalogue. Nature of business also impacts the maintenance cost of a website. For example, an e-commerce website requires

I am J and the question of gender Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
I am J and the question of gender - Essay Example For instance, from Jââ¬â¢s earliest childhood memory, she was praised as a lovely cute boy while running without a shirt was very embracing for him. She faced this shame all her life in a number of other ways till he matures into a gangly seventeen year old girl. Whether he is at school competing in the swimming team or at home arguing with his parents, he always saw world as a confused and backward place. As J begins his transformation, he avoids going to school and bunk out all night to avoid his uncomfortable home and gives his mind a space where it can relax and understand his gender identity. In his gender identity quest, he thought of taking testosterone shots and surgical methods as he thinks that it will give him more confidence and let him what he really is, regardless of what his parents and others think(Beam, 2011). Marcia who was Jââ¬â¢s friend also a transgender thinks that all of us possess some masculine and feminine qualities. For me, I agree with the statement partially. Yes, we do have same qualities and the intensity of these qualities may range from person to person, but such qualities do not show our gender trait. A gender is a trait that is specified by anatomy and physiology of a person. A boy who is more emotional does not mean that he is a girl

Good Manners Essay Example for Free
Good Manners Essay Good manners are important because we live in a community. Good manners are the way we make social connections run smoothly. They give us a formula to deal with the unexpected, the awkward and an easy opening and closing ritual to meeting people. They can help us to mask our dislike of another merely by obeying the traditional courtesies of our culture. By treating others with respect and demonstrating good manners, we show that we expect the same respect in return. It is possible to disagree with someone very strongly, but if the argument is conducted with politeness and good manners, both sides come out of the situation well. The dispute might not have been settled to the satisfaction of either, but an agreement to disagree, reached amicably, means the relationship is not lost and further work can be done. There is always the hope that you can convince the other of your ideas in a future discussion. Quite often, long lasting friendships emerge from such well run conflicts because with the good manners comes respect for the person, even if not for the ideas. Human beings are complex, the product of their experiences and circumstances. Basic drives in each is strong and could make individuals self centered unpleasantly. Good manners give us the boundaries to behavior which are acceptable to our society, and these vary with each community, often in subtle ways. The elemental part of good manners is that you do not embarrass another person. Itââ¬â¢s a simple as that. With these guidelines we can deal with many unexpected situations with aplomb. Good manners are a protection as well as a way of easing communication. It is much more comfortable to be with those who are polite. The language is more agreeable, the behavior is inclusive and it helps everyone concerned to feel good about themselves. Those who are feeling relaxed, safe and comfortable are more likely to be productive in their enterprises and good company. Even if this is only because they can concentrate on what they are doing. They are not worrying about what other people think of them or having to remembering that they are in a feud and are ââ¬Ënot speakingââ¬â¢ to certain people. All that takes energy and is a waste of time as well. While it is possible to be very rude to someone else with subtly, within a framework of good manners, this is not the aim of the rules by which communities abide. It is also rather pointless, but it happens. Simply, good manners are important because they ease communication between people.

Recruitment Methods Used In An Organisation Commerce Essay
Recruitment Methods Used In An Organisation Commerce Essay In todays increasingly competitive environment, the biggest challenge is to identify and retain highly qualified and reliable employees. Organizations need to recruit quality people and to do so must implement and support a finely-tuned recruitment process which must consists of three fundamental factors: to be effective in producing suitable candidates, to be efficient and cost-effective and be fair as well as legally sound to ensure decisions are made on merit. Rynes (1991) defined recruitment as encompassing all organizational practices and decisions that affect either the number, or types, of individuals who are willing to apply for, or accept, a given vacancy This is particularly relevant for Marcus Evans one of the worlds leading business information and event companies which one of its main concerns is to recruit the right people in order to achieve good growth and excellent customer service for its customers. Marcus Evans is a tall hierarchical structure organisation which has many levels of management and supervision. The organisation is functionally organised with separate departments for marketing, finance, operations, design, production, sales and it has a lot of employees from different cultures and backgrounds which create the need to the organisation to recruit people constantly. When recruiting new employees Marcus Evans sets out its skills requirements in two key documents. Together the person specification and the job analysis act as checking devise for both candidates to be able to match their own skills and qualifications to what is specified and for the business, enabling recruiters to make sure that, applicants with the right skills are chosen for interview. Since Marcus Evans is an International organisation, recruits its people in to two central types of recruitment: The internal recruitment method which the organisation fills its vacancies from within their existing workforce and the external recruitment method which the organisation tries to find their suitable applicant outside the business. Large quantities of recruitment methods can be used, in order the organisations to create a pool of external applicant for a vacancy. The primary method of external recruitment process used by Marcus Evans is to use their own resources which include their website and their own employees. Marcus Evans website provides a wealth of details about the company and a list of vacancies and contact details. It makes it possible for applicants to download details about job and person specification and application forms. Advertise through their website include the potentials to reduce recruitment cost and speed up the recruitment cycle, reach a wide pool of potential applicants and make applying easier as audiences can access the website 24 ours every day. In terms of current staff, an additional method of recruitment used by Marcus Evans is employee referrals that they encourage employees to nominate potential recruits through their personal contacts (Marchington and Wilkinson, 2005 seated in Bloisi 2007) Recruiting candidates using employee referral is widely acknowledged as being the most cost effective and efficient recruitment method to recruit candidates however it is very norrow search technique in the means of that an organisation can only reach a very limited audience. In both cases, applicants must meet minimum skills requirements of qualifications or experience. Another popular method of external recruitment used by Marcus Evans is the use of newsprint and other media sources. They advertise their vacancies through national or local press, professional journals and local commercial radio. Advertising is expensive and it is important to be selective in the choice of media, design, layout and contents. In addition, beyond cost, the most effective way to attract the right applicants in terms of qualification and experience is the professional journals. However the downside of this source is that usually there is a delay between placing the advertisement and publication date and this leads to costly delays. Moreover, before recruiting new external employees, Marcus Evans creates a pool of applicants to fill a vacancy from its internal employees. They did so by first send internal applications using such methods of communications as email, team meetings, and the staff news letter. According to Taylor (Taylor 2002 seated in Bloisi 2007) internal recruitment has a several advantages for the organisation. Firstly is a relatively cheap way of recruiting, secondly, it gives employees more chances for career development and progression and finally internal applicants know what to expect in the job as well as how the organisation operates and also this reduce the risk that organisation has in whether the new candidate is the right for the job. Barber (1998) suggests that there are three recruitment phases that generate applicants and maintain their position. Firstly, it depends from the organization to reach out the applicants and persuade them to become applicants, secondly, attempts to persuade applicants to remain interested in the organisation and to continue to pursue the job opportunity until the organization determines whether to offer them a position, and thirdly attempts to persuade individuals to accept job offers. Furthermore, positive recruiting occurs with the review and analysis of companys recruiting staff, hiring goals and their overall recruiting budget. In this competitive employment marketplace in order for organisations to increase the ability to attract more candidates organisations it is essential to use multiple recruitment methods, have well written position descriptions and manage to market the organization to the potential candidates. Organizations that know where they have been, where they are, a nd where they are going are on the way to achieving recruiting success. G. Kameswari (2005) In conclusion, Marcus Evans proved that over the years developed a successful recruitment approach in order to select the right person for the right job as is become one of the worlds leading business event companies. However, in organisations with high levels of staff turnover such us Marcus Evans, it may not be necessary to undertake a job analysis for every vacancy that occurs. It can be more useful to engage of checking whether the existing job description and job specification are appropriate for future needs. (Marchington and Wilkinson, 2005 seated in Bloisi 2007). Also by recruits internal employees before considering looking for people outside the organisation, it minimise the possibility of new ways that new staff may have in undertaking tasks. Last but not least, in the specific case of employee referral, unsuccessful referrals may lead to demotivated staff. It is becoming clear that effective recruitment is critical to organizational success (Rynes, 1990). It is the heart of the whole HR systems in the organization. However, to best measure the effectiveness of different recruitment methods, organizations should rely on feedback from internal customer, from employees and from external customer. Finally, the most accurate assessment of an organizations recruitment methods and processes is the true ability of the candidate as displayed on-the-job. Barber AE. (1998). Recruiting employees: individual and organizational perspectives. Thousand Oaks, CA: Sage. Rynes SL, Barber AE. (1990). Applicant attraction strategies: An organizational perspective. Academy of Management Review, 15,286-310. . In the prescriptive HRM literature, recruitment is seen as a process that should be supported by job analysis, job description and job specification.
EMINEM: How Much Damage Can You Do With a Pen Essay -- Derogatory Lyri
EMINEM: How Much Damage Can You Do With a Pen "Damn how much damage can you do with a pen", says rapper Eminem in his song titled, Who Knew. This song is on Eminemââ¬â¢s most recent and most controversial album, The Marshall Mathers LP. If it possible for one single quote to sum up my research paper, then this quote does it. There exists an intense and extremely controversial set of circumstances surrounding Eminem and his music. Eminemââ¬â¢s lyrics have been intensely criticized lately and have been categorized as hate-filled and inappropriate by many gay organizations. The leading organization in this controversy is the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, more commonly referred to as GLAAD. Their primary focus is to create consciousness about Eminemââ¬â¢s inappropriate use of derogatory words against homosexuals. GLAAD is protesting Eminemââ¬â¢s album as well as his four Grammy nominations. Since GLAAD is a liberal gay organization, they are limited by definition; in terms of how much they can participate in the complex situation that surrounds Eminemââ¬â¢s lyrics. They see words as either derogatory or not. Therefore they can not truly take part in the discussion about the constant evolution of the meanings of words, that occurs in our society. Eminem is undoubtedly the best artist to use as an example to show the effect of artistââ¬â¢s lyrics upon society, especially upon the youths in our society. Whether or not Eminemââ¬â¢s lyrics are offensive enough to be banned is a discussion without a true answer. Therefore the major focus of my paper, the connection between music (particularly rap and Eminem) and our culture, is a subject which is greatly affected by whomeverââ¬â¢s eyes you are looking out of. The most effective way of understanding... ...e beauty of language, and its many varying applications. Rap is a style of music unlike any other. Rap is competition in its rawest and most simple form. It is based on a set of traditions that promotes the besting of those who have just bested you. Doing damage is essential to excelling in rap. If you participate in rap and donââ¬â¢t do damage then you wonââ¬â¢t be doing rap justice. If you participate in rap and donââ¬â¢t do damage then you are not sticking to the lofty traditions rap has and you are not helping to enhance language. Most importantly, if you participate rap, or even if you donââ¬â¢t and you voice your thoughts through another form of creative expression and you donââ¬â¢t do damage, then you are cheating yourself. And you will never be able to honestly answer the question of, How much damage can you do with a pen? And that is a lost opportunity that no person deserves.
